This political sketch then inspired Morris Michton to create a new toy. This new plaything was a stuffed bear cub. In honor of President Roosevelt, he named his creation Teddy’s bear, after the former President’s nickname. The President was sent a sample of his namesake and Mr Michton received permission to use the leader’s nickname. A stuffed bear was also developed in Germany from the designs of Richard Steiff. In March 1903, these toys were shown at the Leipzig Toy Fair. The teddy bear cult became full-fledged by 1906. As they say, the rest is history.
