When it’s time to decorate, there are a number of things to consider when purchasing office furniture. You need to think about your own comfort as well as the impression that your office makes on potential clients or other guests. You must also consider how the office will grow with you as your business takes off. Don’t dismiss this as a waste of your time. You may be busy, and decorating decisions were never on your schedule. However, by taking a few minutes now, you will save yourself a lot of time, energy, and money later on. Feel Good and Work Better If you spend hours at your desk writing reports and analyzing data, your desk chair can be your best friend or your worst enemy. If your chair doesn’t fit your body, you can experience back and leg aches that will eventually impair your ability to think and work. When seated properly in a chair, your feet will comfortably meet the floor. Well made chairs also support your back, providing support and encouraging good posture. It is always important to sit up straight and tall in an office. It gives your managers as well as subordinates an impression that you are strong and confident. Back support is not only vital for those with an aching posterior; it is the key to good posture. A straight tall back will make you appear in command to anyone who walks into your office. It also helps to ensure that your breathing is clear, deep, and smooth by opening up your airway. The Desk is Where the Work Is To some people, a desk is just a big piece of furniture that is filled with office supplies. But a desk is so much more than that. It is the place where your ideas will blossom or wilt. In order to encourage the most creative work, think about the way you work as well as your own style. This is a different process from they way you selected your chair. That was all about physicality, the shape, or your body, and the way you move. A desk is about how your mind functions and your personal habits. Do you want your desk to be a blank canvas or constant puzzle of paperwork? You should also consider your personal taste, because if you spend you day sitting at a desk that doesn’t feel right, your work could be affected. Whether or not we like to admit it, we have a distinct emotional connection to our furniture. It reflects our personality and our style. If you are setting up a modern design company, you will probably select sleek, creatively constructed, contemporary pieces. On the other hand, a law firm that wants to portray an image of confidence and Ivy League law degrees may choose elegant dark wood pieces. Storing All of Your Stuff One byproduct of every office is the accumulation of stuff. This can be piles of files, reports, prototypes for experimental products, proposals, and plans. You will need a place to store all of the information that you collect. Many stylish storage units today are made as modular units so that you can pick out the parts that suit your style and needs. It is important to first consider how often you need to access this material. If it’s a struggle to reach, then your system isn’t working. How big is the item? Make sure that your materials fit into the shelving units and that they will not be damaged there. What about prying eyes? Is this information confidential? Does it need to be store out of sight or do you want it displayed for all to see? The Space to Put the Furniture We’ve already mentioned that the items to be store must fit properly in their shelving units. If not they can be impossible to access or even damaged in the process. This is also true for the way your furniture fits into your office. You must take the time to measure the room. The furniture that you select must fit comfortably into the space. If you have to bang your knees just to squeeze behind your desk, you should reconsider your office furniture purchase. Do you know what things to consider when buying office furniture? Chairs as we know is a raised surface that we use to sit on usually for only one person at a time. There are so many different types of chairs depending on the specific use of the chair. There are regular plastic or metal chairs, car seats, chairs with wheels attached to them called wheel chairs and so on. Then there are the types of chairs that more than one person can sit on, and can be called, sofas, settees, or a “loveseat. Chairs will be of different design from culture to culture and it can vary according to the persons taste. Some chairs will be designed to have more comfort by designing a more open back rest to aid in ventilation and others will have a head rest built in. Chairs have been around since the beginning of civilization and the basic concept of sitting on a raised platform can be seen in just about every civilization. But what is interesting is that almost all of them treated the chair with the same attitude that is something that needs to be respected and feared, because it represented power and authority. We still remnants of that in our daily vocabulary, with words like, chairman and chairperson. European countries would have to wait until the renaissance before the chair became a widely acceptable piece of household accessory. The perception became that if you could afford to have one then you could buy it. With time this attitude gained momentum and slowly the chair became a common item. In this day and age the chair has become a very common piece of household item so much so we take them for granted and do not even notice them unless they have some sort of unusual design. There is an old concept for chairs known as rocking chairs that go back centuries, now it has made a comeback and are called modern rocking chairs and can found in many designs and styles.
