Flying home from a long vacation or a demanding business trip is tough. Airports bring out the worst in people, as long lines, cramped quarters and hours of waiting around take their toll on even the most patient people. As a limo driver in New York City, I’ve spent my fair share of time at two of the country’s busiest airports and have heard countless horror stories from even the most seasoned travelers about temper tantrums and mental breakdowns. When I first started in the limo business, my initial inclination was to laugh at these people’s inability to control their emotions. Most weary travelers, however, do not appreciate being patronized by a limo driver, so I learned quickly that if my business was going to survive, I would have to find a way to ease my clients’ minds after a long day in the air.

I started paying attention to the faces of strangers I saw in the airport and studied the different emotions around me. The faces I saw usually showed a mixture between annoyance and indifference, but my favorites were those whose faces displayed feelings of elation and euphoria. I commonly saw these happy faces on family members, old friends or young lovers who were reuniting after, I assume, long periods of time spent away from each other. To build my business, I began to greet my clients at the airport as if I were greeting old friends. I welcomed my clients to New York with newspapers, toys and warm snacks. Lucky for me, my research paid off and my company is now the most profitable limo service in the entire Northeastern United States. I want to share my success with you, so keep reading to learn three wonderful ways to greet your special someone at the airport.

OLD FAITHFUL: FLOWERS, CANDY AND CARD

Though it may sound boring, I’ve never once seen the traditional route backfire on a guy. In fact, I often noticed that the arriving traveler was happy to receive anything at all. Just because you lack creativity doesn’t mean you can’t be thoughtful. The best part about this gift is that it doesn’t require a lot of money or effort but still makes a huge impression on that special someone.

CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES, COME ON!

For those who enjoy making a scene and getting attention, buy some balloons with crazy colors and wacky artwork. You can even personalize your balloons with little sayings to make your greeting that much more special. Believe me, you will be a hit if you greet your special someone with a bunch of balloons.

THE ULTIMATE: BRING A CUSTOM BANNER

My personal favorite method of airport greeting is with a custom banner. Custom banners require a bit more preparation on your part, but as long as you go to your local print banner maker and explain to him what you want, he will easily be able to craft you a high quality print banner in a very short amount of time. The best part about a custom banner is that it can be personalized, so you can include any message you want on your custom banner. Also, unlike flowers or balloons, a custom banner is easy to take care of and can last forever. I designed a custom banner for my son when he came home from a year in Europe, and that custom banner is still hanging in his room to this day!

I hope that you will take my recommendations to heart and try one of them out the next time you are greeting a loved one at the airport. While balloons and flowers are great, just remember that you will make the biggest statement with a print banner!

Stake Your Claim With A Print Banner

My company’s office is housed in a building that also houses several other offices. I love the convenient location and spacious parking lot that my office provides to me and my clients. Not only that, but my rent is also extremely reasonable. Having low rent keeps my operating costs low which makes my business more profitable! The only problem I have with my situation is that my landlord won’t let me put a permanent sign outside the building. This problem was only temporary, however, as my landlord and I were able to resolve our disagreement.

THERE IS NO PROBLEM THAT CANNOT BE SOLVED

After a bit of research on signs and other ways of advertising my location without making any permanent additions to the exterior of my building, I decided that installing a vinyl banner above the door to my office was the best possible solution to my dilemma. My landlord was very supportive of my proposal, as I explained to him that the vinyl banner would make a minimal impact on the exterior of the building and could easily be removed should I ever move my office. I ordered a beautiful custom banner from a local banner maker and nailed the vinyl banner above my office door for all to see.

SOMETIMES SOLUTIONS BRING ON MORE PROBLEMS

At first, the vinyl banner looked great above my office door. Unfortunately, my satisfaction was soon replaced by disappointment, as a strong windstorm came through town about a week later and ripped the nails holding my vinyl banner clear out of their holes allowing my custom banner to fly away. I was lucky to find my vinyl banner in a tree down the street from my office with only minimal damage, but I was still upset that I now faced a whole new set of problems relating to my ability to mark the location of my office. The worst of the damage to the actual banner was that the holes where the nails had pierced the vinyl banner had ripped from the wind pressure, thus affecting the beauty of my custom banner.

AGAIN, FOR EVERY PROBLEM THERE IS A SOLUTION

I went back to my local custom banner maker and explained to him the problems I was having with the installation of my vinyl banner. Luckily, being the expert that he is, the custom banner maker provided me with two useful tips on how to prevent a vinyl banner from flying away.

GET YOURSELF MORE THAN JUST A COUPLE OF GROMMETS!

A grommet is a metal or brass eyelet that encases a hole in a vinyl banner so that the weight of the banner does not cause the vinyl to tear when the custom banner is displayed or hung from an elevated area. The vinyl banner maker said he would be happy to install a few extra grommets in my custom banner to distribute the weight of the banner across several grommets instead of only a few. The more grommets there are on a vinyl banner, the less weight each hole is forced to support. Ever heard the saying “strength in numbers”? That saying applies perfectly to this situation.

TIP #2: MAKE IT TAUT!

When you are hanging your custom banner on a wall, you want to make sure that you pull the banner very tightly against the wall so that there is very little, if any, slack. By doing so, you reduce the amount of air that is able to get behind the banner, thus preventing a strong windstorm from pulling the banner off of its perch. After speaking with my local banner maker, I realized that when I first hung my banner I did so carelessly and thus, my banner blew away in a strong windstorm.

I LOVE SOLUTIONS!

And there they are, my two wonderful recommendations! These two simple tips will prevent you from having to waste your time with trial and error. I hope you get as much joy out of these solutions as I have!
