If you been in network marketing for 5 minutes or more you have heard of “the three foot rule”. This goes on the crazy concept that if anyone comes within three feet of you they are a prospect. At the point of this three foot interference it is your job as a networker to verbally assault them with your opportunity. Ridiculous!

Why their company is the greatest with the best compensation plan and the newest secret formula from the Galapagos islands. They tell the prospect how their job is like a prison and they are not living the dream by working for someone else….blah blah blah blah….

SHUT UP.

What if they are in their dream job and you really don’t have any idea about them cause you been doing all the talking. You launched into the talking head mode without even a care of what they desire.

Now the internet is plagued with this ugly practice. As soon as you “Friend” someone on Facebook they start the pitch fest about their product and company. This practice has gone from the grocery line to online. After they say hi they begin the full on assault about the meeting they have this Wednesday. That’s the Web 2.0 version of the 3 Foot Rule.

The First Secret: The three foot rule is more of a pushing mechanism than a drawer. Even if you get a positive response the duplication (or replication) is impossible, because everyone is not going to do it. So failure is more inevitable than success.

Truly tapping into someone’s desires and needs will cause your business to grow leaps and bounds. There is only one reason people are driven and even get up in the morning.

My wife and I had a conversation over the holidays and she recalled how she could not get a word in when talking to her relatives. Guess what they talk about…that’s right, THEMSELVES.
