Writing articles as I am sure many of you know is a very common way of exploding the amount of back links that you have heading to your site. In hypothesis, the more of these back links we are able to obtain, the more hits our site should experience. There are however some very important things to take into consideration when writing and submitting your articles as you do not want to be blowing away your time and you do not want your web site to get dismissed by the major search engines or put in some sort of sandbox.

The first thing to remember is that Rome was not built in a day. What I mean is if you have a new website, about for example weight loss, you may want to reach the top ten in Google for your keywords within say six months. You hear that one way to do this is by building up good number of back links to this weight loss site. You think that the more the merrier and start pounding out one article after the other and are very proud of yourself after the first month because you were able to write fifty articles all pointing to your new weight loss website.

I believe this approach to be totally wrong. The weight loss websites which are in the top ten of Google have probably been around for quite a number of years and will without doubt have a number of quality back links. If your site sticks around for a long time and you continue to build up its back links it will go higher and higher in the search engines over time.

The one thing you do not want to do is to raise any red flags with the search engines. A new site which has eight hundred back links after one month could raise this red flag. The search engines will now probably not trust this site and could easily put it in some sort of sandbox until it decides whether it is kosha or not.

In my opinion it is important to build up the number of backward links to a new website fairly slowly. When writing articles, I would personally only write one article with a link to a new website per week. Of course if you have ten websites, you are able to write ten articles if you only decide to have one link on each article etc.

I also think that it is very worthwhile to only submit the same article to around five or six of the different article directories. I would submit the article in total to around twenty-two article directories but would have around four variations of it etc. The differences in each article are not massive but are big enough to make it more original. There is a big thing being debated at the moment in webmaster circles about the potential damage that can be caused by duplicate content. From what I have read, everybody seems to have a different opinion on this subject. My opinion is that it is better to be safe than sorry, therefore why take the risk? It would be good however if the major search engines could clarify their position on the subject, but lets face it, that is never going to happen.

In conclusion, my advice is to enjoy writing articles, have patience, build up the number of back links slowly and to submit different variations of the same article to the directories. The key to writing articles first and foremost is to KEEP IT SIMPLE and WRITE ABOUT WHAT YOU KNOW.

OVERVIEW: So, the basic idea is you write as many articles as you want and then send and submit them to “Article Directories”. People who want content for their sites all over the world will go to these sites to find free articles for them to use. They are allowed to use them only on the proviso that they put in your name and information at the bottom.

You can write about anything. It may be about Home Business, Sport, Cooking … whatever! I write articles about Internet Marketing, Home Business and also Mums and Babies because these are my interests. At the bottom of each articles I write my information and it looks something like this:

That doesn’t mean you don’t need to plan a little bit, but people on the internet just want short snippets of info they can read in a short amount of time.

It’s a good idea to write in lots of paragraphs because people get bored otherwise.

* Sometimes I even write in point form!

* Give people free information - don’t just write a promo for your business, most of the article directories won’t accept it anyway and people just won’t read it.

Also don’t expect direct responses from articles. The main aim is actually more long term. It helps get your organic listing higher in the search engines and to get your name out there as an expert. It’s a long term thing, so you may even have to write as many as 10-20 articles to start seeing increased traffic to your website, but imagine after 6 months or even a year what your profile will be like in the industry.

And depending on what your article is about you could also send it to a niche website. So, say you wrote a website about computers, then you could contact the editor and offer them your article. I have done this with some baby specific articles I wrote.

Delivering fresh content to your visitors and the search engines is a free and major way to ensure that new traffic continually flows to your site. Forget the other platforms, and build your blog using the Wordpress blogging platform. It’s free and is very robust. Both novices and pros use is with much ease and success.

3. Start Building Relationships

It’s important to build relationships online to grow your business. I usually like to do this by building relationships in person at conferences and networking events — but those cost big money. Not really the smartest idea during a tough economic time. Thank goodness that now we can use social media to build those relationships. I have found a lot of clients as well as JV partners via social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. I also like to talk to folks via email. Old school I know — but still effective.

4. Quit Buying Information You Don’t Need

While I highly recommend to all of my clients that they invest in continual education, I also readily admit that it should only be information that you can afford at the time. I have invested thousands in information products, coaching programs, etc. but I also have done it during times when I could afford to do so. When I couldn’t - I didn’t. The same goes for your marketing. There are dozens of strategies you could try implementing, but many cost money (such as pay per click ads). Start with with the simplest strategies first that cost little to no money. My first recommendation is article marketing of course:-)

5. Abandon Pricey Marketing Tactics

If you are already in a few coaching programs. membership sites, or are running Google ads etc. - you may want to abandon all the tactics that are not working for you. Or that you haven’t gotten to yet. Or that are just out of your budget right now. It’s not necessary when there are cost-free solutions out there that may not work overnight — but absolutely will work for your business.
